Place : Saint-Chamas (Bouches du Rhône)
Public : Teenagers (16 - 17 years old)
The 17th century Royal gunpowder works in Saint-Chamas manufactured the gunpowder needed to supply the armies under the command of Louis XIV. While the site closed in 1974, the “Poudrerie” and its grounds (118 hectares) are now open to the public, with several kilometres of botanical trails giving nature-lovers the chance to discover the site’s rich and varied flora. The Union APARE-CME’s links with the site go back ten years and a close working relationship has been established with the SIANPOU, which manages the site. The amphitheatre is a green and leafy havenat the south-east entrance to the site and belongs to the town of Saint-Chamas. In 2018, our youth volunteer teams (16 to 17-year olds) began rebuilding the amphitheatre’s retaining walls and this year, you’ll help complete this task, with help from your highly experienced and enthusiastic supervisor.
When the work is over, you’ll have a wide range of activities to choose from, including hikes in the Camargue, the Luberon and the Alpilles, excursions to Marseille, Aix-en-Provence or Arles, as well as the chance to get up close to the flora and fauna in the grounds.
